Dino Thunder AU
Dec. 3rd, 2022 07:31 pmThis is a universe I've been playing with on and off since 2018. I had read somewhere that Jason and Adam were also under consideration to be the mentor/Black Ranger for Dino Thunder, and this was born. I have almost 11k words currently written, but I know there are some parts I want to scrap and rework.
Tommy & Adam are a couple and are working with Hayley on developing the Ranger tech. I take the scene at the beginning of Dino Thunder were Tommy is escaping the island before it explodes, and make that the point where Tommy goes missing and Adam & Hayley have to deal with not knowing whether or not he's alive and finishing the Ranger tech. They enlist some help from a couple of Hayley's college friends, Cam and RJ - yes, that Cam and RJ. (That's a whole different backstory that will probably end up a separate story.) Adam & Tommy's former Ranger teammates pop up at various points for moral support, though Rocky & Jason are the only ones that know about the Dino Gems.
When Tommy waltzes back into town as the high school's new science teacher, without reaching out to Adam or Hayley, they assemble their Ranger team. They confirms their suspicions that Conner and Ethan are their Red and Blue because color-coding, and they lead them to Kira.
Adam confronts Tommy and finds out his memory is essentially gone and he doesn't have any idea who Adam & Hayley are. They suspect that Mesagog tampered with his mind and sent him to retrieve the gems, which are now bonded to three teenagers. Mesagog starts attacking, and Adam becomes the Black Ranger. Tommy starts to get some of his memories back and then BAM, the White Ranger shows up and Adam immediately knows that it's Tommy and doesn't take things well.
When Tommy breaks free of Mesagog's control, the Ranger teens don't trust him, but they work everything out and defeat Mesagog and everyone lives happily ever after.
Adam/Tommy is the primary relationship with Jason/Rocky, Hayley/RJ, and Conner/Kira as side pairings. Not sure where Trent is going to fit into the story without him being a Ranger, but I still do plan to include him.
I always see the explosion at the beginning of Day of the Dino as occurring shortly after Forever Red, which would make Tommy missing for roughly a year and a half before he comes back to Reefside. I probably need to explore what happened to him during that period to some extent, and it won't be pretty.
I also have to figure out how Hayley and Adam know that Mesagog is the big bad without having Tommy there to tell them.
